Mike Shaw - Drums and percussion
Mike Shaw Bio
 | Born in Chinatown (East L.A.), yeah that's right, me and
Cheech Marin!! |
 | I was raised a poor black child, and never knew why the
blues made me so sad. |
 | The first instrument I played was the violin (at age 10). |
 | Then at age 13, I came to my senses and started learning
drums via Hal Blaine's drum records. |
 | I was involved in the school music program from age 13
through high school. |
 | During high school, I auditioned for and was accepted into
two all-state music groups, thanks to my great drum teacher Ken Smith
(Tympanist with the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra). |
 | After high school, I hitch-hiked around the western portion
of the U.S.A. for a couple of years and ended up in Wenatchee, where I took
up the flute at age 20 and studied under Don Lanphere and Jon Pugh.
And I met and married my clarinet playing wife of 23 years now. |
 | Played in a couple of God-rock bands in the 80's and
several musicians in between then and now.
Musical influences:
Todd Rundgren, Frank Zappa, E.L.P., Yes, Chicago, Mahavishnu Orchestra,
